Chaplain OwensChaplain (LTC) Jerry Owens serves as the Deputy Command Chaplain, US Army Intelligence and Security Command, Fort Belvoir, VA. He graduated from Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, CA in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received; his Masters of Divinity from The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO in 1982. In 2000, he received a master’s degree in American Studies from The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA. Chaplain Owens’ military education includes the Chaplain Officer Basic Course in 1988, the Career Course in 1995, Combined Arms Services and Staff School(CAS3) in 1998, Army Command General Staff College (CGSC) in 2001. and the Chaplain LTC Course in 2005.

Chaplain Owens, the son of a Non-Commissioned Officer, has been traveling most of his life. He attended middle school and high school in Port Hueneme, CA and was raised in military chapels and Assemblies of God Churches. He was ordained by the Assemblies of God, Southern California District in 1985 and before an active duty Army Chaplain in 1988. As a civilian pastor, Chaplain Owens served as the Senior Pastor of the 1st Assemblies of God, Morro Bay, CA (86-87). During the same time period, he served as a Chaplain in the Air Force Reserve. He is currently a member of the Southern California District of the Assemblies of God.

During his 20 years on active duty, he has served in a number of troop, staff and school positions in CONUS and OCONUS locations, including Germany, Korea and Iraq. His military assignments include -- nine years as a battalion chaplain: 3 years for the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas (88-89), 4 years with the 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment at Baumholder, Germany (90-93), 2 years with 326th Engineers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky (95-96); four years as a brigade chaplain: 1 year with the 2nd of the 502d Infantry Brigade, 101st Infantry Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky (96), 2 years with the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Meade, Maryland (98-99), the 11th Aviation Brigade, Camp Stanley, South Korea; served as the Deputy Division Chaplain for the 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Red Cloud, Korea (04), The Regimental Chaplain and Instructor at the Quartermaster Center and School, Fort Lee, Virginia (01-02 ), and the Resource Manager, Deputy Installation Chaplain and Senior Pastor of Regimental Memorial Chapel, Fort Eustis, Virginia (05-06). He also served as the Assistant Brigade Chaplain for the 11th Aviation Brigade as a part of V Corps during Desert Shield/Desert Storm (91).

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Global War on Terrorism for Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (two awards), and the Air Assault Badge.

Chaplain Owens has been married for 26 years to the former Pamela Kaye Lake. They have two children: Chase and Chelsea. Chase is in the Navy and is currently training in Pensacola, Florida for Sea, Land and Air Search and Rescue. Chelsea is a freshman at South Eastern University in Lakeland, Florida which is an Assemblies of God Christian College.

Chaplain Owens’ heroes have always been Soldiers and the Families that support them. It has been his honor to serve as an Army Chaplain the Soldiers and Families that he so admires.

Chaplain Owens has a passion for sports and is a die hard New England Patriot Fan.
